A cool old map of Concord in 1852.
- The 1800s was an important time for Concord! It was known as the literature (BOOKS) town of America since it was home to authors like Louisa May Alcott, Nathaniel Hawthorne, Ralph Waldo Emerson, and Henry David Thoreau!
- Save the trees! Concord 200 years ago was mainly made up of forests, but in the 1800s only a little bit remained. It is why Thoreau and others wanted to save nature!
- Concord also began to grow with its population doubling; a lot of people from other countries liked to settle here.
- Roads grow and older buildings (like the taverns,Concord Center, and hotels) disappear.
- OH NO FIRE! A fire destroys some of Concord Center!
