- Was a poet, lecturer, and a leader of a movement
- He was close friends with Henry David Thoreau and Bronson Alcott
- He did not like to go to church (and so did his friend Mr. Alcott!)
Fun Facts:
- He went to the notorious Boston Latin School
- He graduated Harvard University with the hopes of becoming a minister
- He married twice! His first wife died of a lung disease two years after they married. (The same lung disease that Henry David Thoreau died of!)
- The famous American poet, Walt Whitman, was inspired by Emerson
